Many
learners who learn Chinese may face one common question: “Do we need to set
goals to learn Chinese efficiently?”
The answer is a definite YES. Actually, we need goals to learn everything. Goals
are targets for your learning, clearly defined milestones that are placed along
the road to your final destination of studying Chinese.
Set Goals to Learn Chinese
Why do you need
goals for learning Chinese?
It’s
easy to understand. If you don’t have a goal, there is no such thing as
“progress”. The reason we say that we become better at something is because
we’re approaching a goal, explicit or implicit. If we know nothing about why we
are learning Chinese and have no goals defined, we are just wandering around
randomly.
Chinese
language learning is a skill that enables you to use a foreign language. If you
have a goal, you will know what it takes to achieve that goal, and work exactly
on that. By setting a goal, we get to know something we didn’t know before.
Having
a goal in mind will do you many benefits. For example, when you listen to a new
Chinese audio or video clip for the first time, there will more than likely be
several things you don’t understand. How do you react in that situation? Many
learners habitually get discouraged and conclude that it's too difficult for them
and give up. However, unless your goal is to score the best out of a Chinese test,
you should accept that not understanding 100% the first time you listen is 100%
normal. Relax and Listen again.
